Items relate chiefly to banking business and document dealings with the Bank of Liverpool, and farming in South Carolina. Letter, 7 Sept 1843, from to Joseph Hazel, Esq., Beaufort, S.C., re low prices and shipping corn crop to market possibly with William Elliott's crop; Rose requests that Hazel arrange for 3 or 4 African-American slaves from Beaufort to assist "in gathering in the crop and cleaning up my farm near the city"; Rose identifies 5 slaves by name, "Titus, Toney & Peter from the Island and Luck from the Swamp," and reqesting the labor of "Briant the Carpenter," anticipating that he would "be glad of his services for about a month" upon completion of his work repairing buildings at Beaufort County properties. Four letters, 5 June 1845-18 March 1846, to Rose as cashier of Bank of Charleston from Samuel Smith, manager of the Bank of Liverpool, re currency exchange rates and referring to the financial effects of the Walker Tariff of 1846 which significantly lowered import duties; item re Louisville, Cincinnati & Charleston Railroad bonds; and bonds issued ca. 5 June 1845, by the South Carolina under "An Act for rebuilding the City of Charleston."
